Tooth Extraction by Local Emergency Dentist & Urgent Dental Care

Dental pain commonly known as “toothache” is often treated effectively and immediately with a tooth extraction performed by a good general dentist or dental specialist known as an oral surgeon. Emergency dental pain caused by wisdom teeth often occurs as the impacted wisdom teeth push on the teeth next to them and also causing inflammation around the crown of the tooth known as a condition called “pericoronitis.” Pain from wisdom teeth can often be immediately relieved by removing the wisdom tooth and taking antibiotics.

Sometimes the problem tooth is not a wisdom tooth and is simply a bad tooth or rotten tooth that has reached the nerve and is now hurting and causing pain. Often times the pain lingers and is a very dull yet profound pain that gets worse at night and when you like down. Some early signs of a cavity that is approaching the nerve are signs of teeth sensitivity or tooth sensitivity to cold temperatures or even to sweet foods.

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. Temperature (cold) test: The type of tooth pain or tooth sensitivity is often used as an indicator of what type of dental problem and counting how long it lingers can often identify what is going on. Dentists use the cold test to help in diagnosing your pain!
  2. If your tooth is sensitive to cold you can perform the following test: Hold a cold object or an ice cube on the tooth that hurts for 1-3 seconds and remove it as soon as it starts to hurt. Now count how long it takes for the pain to go away
  1. Option 1: If the pain is sharp and only stays for a couple of seconds and goes away when you remove the ice then you may be able to prevent a root canal by seeing your dentist immediately
  2. Option 2: If the pain is dull and lingers on and on for several seconds, maybe beyond 5 seconds then you have an increased chance that you waited too long and you may need an urgent root canal.
